Taiji Qigong Shibashi

Weekly drop-in classes are held outdoors by the Chesapeake Bay south of Annapolis at the Idlewilde Community Pier in Shady Side, Maryland. Classes are open to the public, and participants can be of all fitness levels, abilities, and experience. Students begin where they are, eventually moving on to more complex movements that may require increased balance and flexibility. Taiji Qigong Shibashi can be practiced while seated.

Taiji Qigong Shibashi is a medical Qigong practice with tremendous health benefits. It brings calm, clarity, connection to the natural world and other beings, and the joy of a Clear Blue Mind. It blends the beautiful, slow, rhythmic circular movements of Taiji Chuan and Qigong, an ancient energy cultivation practice. Taiji Qigong Shibashi is embodied, mindful movement timed with the breath. It is practiced in Wuji, a state of tranquility that connects us with the flow of life within and around us.

Taiji Qigong Shibashi has 18 sequential movements. You will learn each movement and the transitions between them so that by the end of the summer session, you will have approximately a 20-minute daily practice. Classes are one hour long. We examine a single movement in depth each week and engage in a supportive practice, such as posture training, breathwork, or meditative Qi cultivation. We then do the entire 18-movement form with me facing the class while offering pointers. Lastly, we do a follow-along practice with me facing away from the class, allowing students to see another angle of the form.

I send students weekly emails that review the movement we focused on in class, its health benefits, and home practice suggestions, including video links for following along at home. There is always time for questions during and after class. Students are welcome to email or text me with questions, and we can meet for private one-on-one sessions to support individual health concerns.
